I used to believe progress was a straight line going up and to the right. More revenue, discipline, everything and always climbing.

It's a cute idea. It's also wrong.

Real-world progress is pretty messy, kind of like a stock market chart.

There are dips, plateaus, and stretches where life ebbs and flows. I wasted a lot of energy beating myself up during those stretches. I'll bet you have as well.

I think about it like sanding wood. You go back and forth and it feels like nothing's happening. Then you step back, and the whole surface is smooth as glass!

So if you're in a dip right now, GOOD.

Trust the bigger arc... your unique storyline and journey.

For my personal site, I decided to go with a minimalist, text-based design, something I've always wanted to do since our company embraces it. My original inspiration 4-5 years agowas the 37 Signals website, and my team is now happy they don't have to hear about us adopting it anymore. Scratched the itch.
