Lean on Those Who Believe in You (V.A.L.U.E.)

This is the V.A.L.U.E email for 11/13/25. Soundbites for your mind and life as we head into the weekend:

This week, we are diving into "belief" and how it's one of the most critical drivers in our lives. Let's go...

V – Vision
A lot of people don’t believe in themselves.

I get it and have definitely been there.

When we make bad decisions, we start to lose trust in ourselves and we start to lack belief.

Here's a life hack:

When you don’t believe in yourself, borrow belief from the people who do (friends, family, colleagues, etc). Eventually, your belief system will catch up.

A – Action

When your belief tank is empty, do something that helps you refuel it.

For me that’s watching Ted Lasso.

Ted Lasso is 100% about belief and optimism in the face of cynicism. The show is about surrounding yourself with people who remind you of your better self.

Especially when you forget who you are.

Here’s a fun video from the show.

Surround yourself with people who believe in you. Be that person for someone else.

L – Lesson

I almost quit training for Ironman Kansas about ½ way through my training regimen. It was 2013, and I was exhausted and frustrated with myself for taking on the challenge.

Luckily, I'm married to a phenomenal woman who helps balance out my irrationalness. She gave me a really cool piece of art with wire sculptures of a swimmer, a biker, and a runner as a visual reminder to keep pushing.

She wouldn't let me quit and helped me restore my belief in accomplishing this goal.

I kept training, finished the race, and later gave a TEDx Talk about it.

Write down who you can turn to when your belief runs low. Remind yourself to go to that person in times of need.

U – Upgrade

If you want belief through discipline, check out "The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield.

It definitely isn’t a touchy-feely book. It's more like a war manual against your inner monkey mind. Pressfield frames belief as a daily act of resistance against the Resistance (your inner enemy that wants to keep you from greatness).

I believe every founder, creator, or leader should read it once a year.

Here was recently on The Huberman Lab discussing the resistance, even though the book is over a decade old.

Timeless.

Understand your inner resistance, claim agency over it, and then tame it.

E – Endurance

Belief doesn’t make things easy.

It does make them achievable.

You’re going to doubt yourself along the path to anything that truly matters. You will question whether what you're working on is worth it. Reality will test you 100% of the time.

Belief allows you to stay in the game long enough to hit the finish line and realize it was all worth it.

I believe in you.

Have a great weekend!
